CommUnity Bicycle Repair Shop

CommUnity Bike Shop promotes the use of bicycles as a safe human-powered form of transportation. The idea for CommUnity Bike Shop came from the area’s weekly riding group, which gathers (May-September) to explore the Unity and the surrounding communities on bicycles.
The goals of the bike shops are:
  • to supply a working bike to anyone who needs one
  • to widen its audience to include youth who will learn bicycle maintenance and participate in the rebuilding of bikes for themselves or for other community members
  • to engage youth in building community by giving them opportunities to “staff” the bike shop, lead community rides and identify recipients for refurbished bikes
  • to teach basic bike repair to people all ages
  • to foster an appreciation of bicycles and our region through community rides
  • to encourage cycling for recreation, fitness and as a reliable transportation option
  • to offer opportunities for riders to pedal various types of bikes
  • to encourage bicycle donations, selling and trading to meet the needs of area residents
  • to teach and promote bike safety and awareness for riders of all levels
  • to promote local on-road and trail routes
The repair shop is located at 205 Depot Street and is staffed by knowledgeable volunteers and student assistants and who have shop tools and equipment available on site for public use. People are able to bring in their own bike and receive help with basic adjustments and repairs. Donated bikes are accepted and will be reserved for instruction and then recycled into the community.
