Day of Service
Unity Barn Raisers' annual Day of Service engages volunteers in several UBR initiatives that serve our community, including Community Trails, Triplet Park, the Community Center, and Veggies for All. Teams also share in a Community Meal, music, and celebration of accomplishments at the end of the day.
Day of Service October 1, 2011
Try as it might, not even heavy rain and cloudy skies could keep volunteers and diners away from the 2nd annual Day of Service and 1st ever UBR pig roast!
95 community minded volunteers participated in 12 service projects located in Unity, Troy and Thorndike last Saturday. Much was accomplished to benefit our area; from a new raised bed garden at the Thorndike Depot to a heavy cleaning at the Troy Grange, from trail work to bean shelling, and from weatherizing to weeding.
141 people then attended the after service celebratory pig roast at the Unity Community Center. Many, many thanks to all the volunteers who made this day such a success. Please join us in extending a special thanks to UBR Board Member, Alysa Remsburg, for all her efforts in coordinating the Day of Service and to Kate Dustin for all her efforts in coordinating the meal.
Not only did this day offer a chance for community improvements and comunity building, thanks to the generosity of our event sponsors, we raised $8,000 to support our important work!
