Unity Barn Raisers Past Events


Garden Fiesta Community Meal August 6, 2011 at the Community Center.
UBR Annual Meeting and Community Celebration Saturday June 4 from 9am to 1pm.
Activities included a farmers’ market, live music, and local business/organization displays plus a fundraiser lunch featuring local products. After lunch there was a tour of the new foot bridge over Sandy Stream connecting downtown Unity with Unity College.

A good old fashioned community egg hunt with prizes, snacks, the Easter Bunny, games PLUS new this year, child safety seat inspections by the Waldo County Sheriff's Department.

A delicious meal featuring: Herb Roasted Chicken, Roasted Local Root Vegetables, Vegetarian Baked Beans (Cajun & Regular), Indian Pudding
All revenue from meals goes to support local food relief efforts through Veggies For All.

Community Meal & Trivia Contest Saturday February 5, 2011 at Unity Community Center.
Hot soup, toasty mac and cheese casseroles and a crisp cabbage and apple salad followed by decadent brownies.

Eve of New Year's Eve with The Gawlers. December 30, 2010 at Unity Centre. Contra dancing, a preshow jam, appetizers, buffet dinner and more! Tickets $10/$5 under 12/free under 4 (includes food, music and dance!) Available in advance or at the door. A great way to celebrate the end of 2010 and the start of 2011 with friends, family and neighbors even if you want to celebrate New Year's Eve at home or already have other plans for that night.

Annual Harvest Supper Saturday November 13, 2010
A uniquely local Thanksgiving meal celebrating the harvest and our community. 135 dinners were served at the Community Center and the Veggies for All program was recognized for its great work supplying the local food pantries. More photos here

Halloween Spooktacular Saturday October 30, 2010
Unity Community Center comes alive with spooky stuff. Jack-o-Lantern carving, games, tasty treays, costume contest, prizes and more. More photos here

Day of Service, Saturday October 2, 2010
In downtown Unity over 80 volunteers joined forces to complete service projects throughout the downtown. This Day of Service, hosted by Unity Barn Raisers and underwritten by the Unity Foundation, brought together area residents ranging in age from 4 to 70 years of age with a common goal: working together to build a better community! Projects included weatherizing the Unity Community Center, preparing Triplet Park for the winter, pruning downtown trees, cleaning up CommUnity Trails, shelling dry beans for the local food pantry, and working on community sailboats. The event was followed by a community meal and celebration featuring live entertainment from local band, Dog Wants Out. UBR Annual Meeting, Saturday June 5, 2010
The Unity Barn Raisers held its 14th Annual Meeting at the Community Center. Local business and organizations created a "mock downtown" under the tent. The meeting focused on the capital campaign to pay off the debt on the Community Center. The UBR directors stepped up to reach 100% participation and $10,000 and Lori Roming up donated her $2500 challenge check on the spot! UBR welcomed new board members Don Newell, Jayne Sullivan, Norma Rossel, Mandie Sawyer, and Jim Macdonald. Morty Hansen provided entertainment. More photos here

Triplet Park building and planting day, Sunday, May 23, 2010
Susan Perrine lead a group of volunteers, including a girl scout troop, in building an S-shaped tunnel with saplings. They also planted the cucumber tunnel, the bean teepees and the sunflower house, and began the construction of the blueberry maze. Triplet Park has playful gardening structures for children. The scouts will return at the end of the summer to harvest food for the local food pantry. More photos here.

Annual Community Egg Hunt, Saturday, April 3, 2010
Thanks to all the volunteers and to our sponsors UniTel, Bangor Savings Bank and Sweet Pete's for a hopping good time at the Annual Community Egg Hunt! Most of all, thanks to the 100 plus kids and family members who showed up to make the morning so much fun! The bunny wanted you all to know that she is already looking forward to returning next year.

Community Meal For Triplet Park, Saturday, February 6, 2010
January 12, 2010 marked the 10 year anniversary of the tragic fire in downtown Unity which resulted in the loss of four community members: three very special young triplet boys and a local firefighter. Since that time, Triplet Park has been created with outdoor learning station, interpretive trail, beautiful flower gardens, and interactive food gardens for kids has sprung up. 75 people attended a UBR Community Meal and we raised $970, enough to cover the park's expenses in the coming year. The Storm Window Project Saturday, January 9, 2010
Learn how to build low cost interior "storm windows" that are reusable year after year. The units increase the R-value of your existing windows, save energy and heating costs and are inexpensive and easy to make. 27 people attended and 43 windows were made. Most folks came from Waldo County but there were also participants from Somerset, Franklin, Lincoln and Kennebec counties! More photos here

Trails Work Day Saturday December 5, 2009
Eagle Scout Dylan Hartkopf led this project to install 250 feet of bog bridging on Connor Mill Trail. A corps of Unity College students and townies from UBR's Trails Group and Friends of Unity Wetlands also pitched in. Don Newell's chain saw helped the work go faster. More photos here.

Harvest Community Meal November 7, 2009 Community members, weatherization volunteers and students ate turkey, dressing, veggies and a lot of pie. Unity College's Wildcards band played. More Photos here.
